Cutting for Stone

Twin brothers born in an Ethiopian mission hospital are separated by betrayal, then pulled back together by a family secret that could change their worlds. Marion and Shiva Stone are born in Addis Ababa in 1954, orphaned at birth and bound together by blood, talent and a secret history. Raised in an Ethiopian mission hospital, the brothers grow up among surgeons, nuns and political unrest, learning early that the body can be opened with precision while the heart resists repair. As they come of age, their shared world fractures through desire, rivalry and betrayal. Marion’s path carries him from Ethiopia to America, but the questions that began in the operating theatre and family home follow him across continents. A multi-million copy bestseller and beloved modern classic, Cutting for Stone is a rich literary family saga. 'A huge, rich, ambitious tapestry of a novel...tremendous' The Times 'There is gravity and beauty in his writing that sets it apart from much contemporary fiction' Daily Telegraph
